Copy the live site to staging (Live to Staging)
Audience: admins · Scope: the Live to Staging tool · Last reviewed: 2026-07-12
What this does — Copies the entire live site onto the staging server, so staging becomes a fresh copy of live to test against. It's a one-button tool — and a powerful one, because it overwrites staging.
Before you start
- Be signed in — see Log in to the admin area.
- Understand that this replaces whatever is currently on staging. Anything only on staging (unsaved test changes) will be lost.
- If anyone else uses staging, let them know first.
Steps
- Click Live to Staging in the menu.
- Read the note — "On this page you copy the live site as a whole to the staging server."
- Click Sync and let it finish. Copying the whole site takes a while.
What happens next
- Staging is overwritten with a current copy of live — same content, products, and data — so you can test on a realistic, up-to-date site.
Good to know
- This is one-way: live → staging. It never copies staging back to live, so it can't harm the live site's content — but it does wipe out anything you had only on staging.
- It's a big operation. Give it time; don't start it twice.
- When to use it: before testing a change against real, current data — refresh staging first so your test reflects live.
Screens and labels can differ slightly between environments — if a label doesn't match what you see, check with your Beta-Calco contact.
